What are we about?
Share Magnet began as an idea among friends in Manhattan Beach, California. We were inspired by the recent boom in social networking. Specifically, we recognized that when people use social networking sites (e.g. Facebook, Twitter and Blogger) they share information about themselves, their friends and their interests. This is called social data.
The more you network, the more data you generate (anything you post publicly is fair game). As a result, networking sites collect vast libraries of social data. Then, site operators use the data to sell advertising space. You share, they profit. And there's nothing wrong with that.
In theory, this creates a win - win - win situation. First, you benefit from access to a desirable network and ads geared towards your interests. Second, the networking sitesraise the revenue necessary to operate. Third, companiesreach their target consumers.
However, this neglects a major component of human nature: word of mouth. People like to share experiences, as evidenced by the billions of posts on networking sites. Every day, consumers provide information to other consumers. Though word of mouth cannot be faked, it could be rewarded. What if when you shared, you profited? This is what Share Magnet is all about.
